Leave a legacy

Why leave a gift in your will?

We know that leaving a gift in your will is a big decision and we appreciate you taking the time to consider supporting us in this very special way. By remembering Ride High in your will you can be confident that your legacy will transform the lives of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children in Milton Keynes and surrounding areas.

We support children who are struggling to cope with enormous challenges that impact their mental health; those who are often overlooked because their problems aren’t visible, or because they can’t verbalise them. They may be young carers with the huge responsibility of caring for a parent of sibling, living in foster care and struggling to adjust, living in poverty, suffering from emotional trauma or mental ill health, or at risk of suicide.

For children with no self-confidence or self-worth, we spend up-to a year supporting them week-in, week-out. Through the use of horses and an associated educational programme, we help to build their resilience, to adjust their behaviours and manage negative feelings, to develop communication and literacy skills, and to in still a sense of pride, achievement and confidence for a brighter future ahead.

Horses have the power to change young lives in a way other methods cannot. They inspire, engage and improve their wellbeing and outlook on life. We see children who won’t speak whisper in a horse’s ear, children who wouldn’t engage in any positive activities prior to Ride High return to school, and children with no positive relationships building friendships that last beyond their time at Ride High.

A gift of any size, will make a big difference to us and a lasting impact on our children. We don’t receive any funding from the government, so we have to raise every penny of the £450,000 it costs each year to support hundreds of children. This makes it very hard to plan for the months and years ahead. Ride High has transformed thousands of young lives since it was established in 2008, and the number of children that need our support is increasing every year – your gift will help ensure that we can be there for all of them and can continue our work long into the future.

The difference your gift will make

Once you have taken care of your loved ones a gift of any size will help to transform the lives of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children.

There are three types of gift that you could choose to leave:

  • Residuary gift – a percentage of your estate after all other gifts have been distributed
  • Pecuniary gift – a set amount of money
  • Specific gift – a particular item of value, such as jewellery.

How to leave a gift in your will

Writing a will might seem daunting, but it’s the best way to protect those closest to you and to make sure your wishes are carried out. It’s also easier than you think to leave a gift to Ride High.

Whether you are considering writing a new will or amending an existing will, we can help.

We’ve teamed -up with local solicitors firm Tollers who can support you through the process and will offer Ride High supporters a £50 discount on their will. Or, if your will isn’t complex, you could complete it for free online using our online will writing service with partner company Beyond. Online will writing has become very popular as it allows you to make and update your will at your own convenienceFor more information about both will-writing options please click here.

To provide you with some additional assistance we’ve created a Will Planning Checklist to help.

If you have already written your will and would like to update it, you need to add a codicil – a document your solicitor will be able to help you draw up and keep with your will. There may be a cost for this (you will need to check with your existing solicitor). Alternatively Tollers also offer this service, they will be able to provide a quote once they have had the opportunity to review your existing will(s).
