Meet the team

Sorrel Docherty – Operations Manager

operationsmanager@ridehigh.org

sorrelMy name is Sorrel, here at Ride High I hold the position of Operations Manager. I am a qualified youth worker and riding instructor, which as you can imagine makes my post here very fitting. Over the years I have carried out various types of research, written articles and got heavily involved in the ‘horsey’ world. However when I then became interested in the youth work-charity field, I found myself in a position where I could bring both of these worlds together. I have been involved in settings which bring young people and horses together for a few years now, and I find myself very lucky to be a part of this growing sector. Ride High gives young people a really special opportunity, seeing some of the life changing outcomes of the programme makes it a very special place to be…for all involved.

I’m one of the Clubroom Leaders for Ride High. I work with groups of young people during their riding lessons and in the clubroom afterwards, where we get involved in different projects from researching, writing and filming interviews to creating group art pieces. Our members are all working towards a level of the Ride High Award to celebrate their progress and our activities involve working in teams as well as individual effort.
I’ve always enjoyed the company of animals and in the past I’ve worked as a class teacher and as an educator for a conservation charity, so I’m pleased to be able to bring these parts of my life together at Ride High. It’s so rewarding to support such deserving youngsters and to see their relationships with the horses develop as well as their personal progress.

My name is Aimee and I am one of the Clubroom Leaders here at Ride High. I have the privilege of working closely with the children on a daily basis both within the clubroom and within practical riding lessons. I get to witness many embarking on their own personal journey’s with us, whilst growing as young people and achieving things that they never thought they could.
As a qualified social worker I have always been passionate about working with children. I came to Ride High for a fresh, exciting challenge and a new experience, having never worked with horses before. I love that I am able to combine both working with children and animals every day. I can honestly say that there is no better reward than seeing youngsters lives change for the better, and of course those smiling faces!

Helen Dixon – Marketing and Fundraising Manager

helendixon@ridehigh.org

I’m Helen the Marketing and Fundraising Manager at Ride High. My role at this wonderful charity primarily involves me raising awareness of what we do and generating income to help us continue to support 80 of Milton Keynes’ most disadvantaged children every week. I have over ten years’ experience in marketing and events primarily in the education sector. I came to Ride High because I wanted to use my knowledge and experience to make a real difference to people’s lives.  I enjoy the variety that every day brings and witnessing the transformation that our children make on their Ride High journey. If you would like to get involved, or have any ideas for marketing and fundraising initiatives please get in touch.

Deborah Clancy – Office Coordinator

I spent many of my teen years galloping up Dunstable Downs and going on lots of lovely treks with my friend’s horses, and know how therapeutic just hanging out with horses can be. So, I’m really excited to be a member of the Ride High team. I have always worked in the corporate world and when I was made redundant, I decided that I wanted to work for a charity where they make a difference. Well there’s no doubt that Ride High makes a huge difference to children’s lives!   I saw it within my first week of working here.  Although I’m primarily in the office, I often get to help out with the children in their riding lessons or classroom sessions and it’s so lovely to see them and the horses working together, and the smiles on their faces when they are here at Ride High.

John Chapman – Driver

My name is John. Although my official title is mini bus driver, I also help around Ride High in many other capacities. My main role involves collecting the children from either schools or homes and returning them after their sessions at Ride High. As far as I’m concerned, once they have joined Ride High, they become part of our family and I like to keep that feeling on the mini bus. It is truly an emotionally rewarding career.
